Why Study In Santiago?

The Santiago program is ideal for students who are interested in studying Spanish and Andean Anthropological Studies in the southern zone of South America. Santiago's urban and natural framework and its proximity to the sites and cities located on Chile's central coastline (Valparaíso and Viña del Mar) offer students an opportunity to interact with the nature and culture of the most southern country in the world.  The range of coastline to its mountainous terrain allow students to fully experience Chile's gorgeous environment.

The academic courses are only a part of the intended value of a stay abroad. Your participation in a homestay, field trips and the optional tour of northern Chile provides valuable learning experiences and interaction with the local culture.  With the opportunity to study the Spanish language and contemporary Chilean society through academic courses and full immersion, as well as the many field trip and field study opportunities there will be plenty to learn and do.

Chile and Santiago

Santiago is a city of contrasts with old colonial and 19th century houses side by side modern skyscrapers; its long shady avenues mingle with busy roads; and it's plazas and parks are tranquil oases in the midst of the bustling metropolis.  Besides Santiago's traditional hospitality and friendliness towards foreigners, it offers a variety of the arts such as symphony orchestras, major dance companies, a host of professional theatre groups, a full slate of concerts and movie theatres and attractive craft markets.

Chile is a land of extremes.  To the north lies the desert that possesses great mineral wealth, the central area supports most of the country's population and agricultural resources while the south is rich in forests and grazing lands with many lakes and volcanoes.  The southern extreme is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas and islands.  Numerous islands in the pacific Ocean belong to chile, including the Juan Fernandez islands where Alexander Selkirk, the model for Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, was marooned and Easter island, the site of a mysterious and ancient Polynesian culture.
