Fachhochschule Trier

Location:  Trier is Germany's oldest city, and was once home to six Roman emperors.  Numerous Roman ruins are still visible throughout the city.  Trier is located just six miles from the Luxembourg border and 120 miles southwest of Frankfurt.  Trier has a population of approximately 100,000 people. 

The University: Fachhochschule Trier (FT) is the largest University of Applied Sciences in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.  FT has three campuses in Trier, Birkenfeld and Idar-Oberstein with a total student population over 6,000.  UTA students take courses at the main FT campus in Trier.

Courses Offered:  Students take courses taught in English through FT's Faculty of Design, which includes the areas of study listed above.  Students with a high proficiency in German may also take regular courses taught in German.  Full Course Details


Student Visas:  US students must possess a US Passport to enter Germany.  US students are not required to obtain a student visa prior to entering Germany, but must obtain a resident permit after entering the country.  Student Visa Process Details

Fun Facts:  There are over 300 different kinds of bread in Germany. There are more football (soccer) fan clubs in Germany than anywhere else in the world. 70% of German highways have no speed limit. German shopping establishments charge for plastic bags.
